Put Off – (Judging)
Matthew 7:1-2 says:
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.
Sometimes as we read the Bible, the instruction or command given may not be totally clear. However, this is not the case for these words from Jesus in Matthew 7. Whether you have heard these verses multiple times or not, they are a great reminder to us to be very careful and not be to quick to judge others.
Put On – (Let God Search My Heart) John 8:9; 15:22
God is the judge. When you judge you are taking upon yourself a job or responsibility for which you were not created. No doubt this is instruction that we will all struggle with as we seek to live as God intended. We must learn to see the difference in giving and receiving correction, and casting judgment. Judgments tend to be a reaction to a given situation. Giving correction should come as a response after much prayer has taken place to give guidance to others. Seek to restore others, not to destroy them.
